FAQ
Frequently asked questions about specialist mentoring support
Clear answers for students, universities, DSA/NMH support, private sessions, and mentoring boundaries.
Students
What is specialist mental health mentoring?+
It is structured, non-medical support for study-related barriers linked to mental health difficulties. Sessions can focus on planning, routines, workload, attendance, communication, confidence, and staying engaged with university.
Do I need to explain my full mental health history?+
No. A first enquiry should only include practical information about study barriers and the support route. Detailed medical history is not needed in the website form.
Is mentoring the same as therapy?+
No. Mentoring is not therapy, counselling, diagnosis, treatment, or crisis support. It focuses on access to study and practical independence.
Can a parent, carer, or supporter contact you?+
Yes. A supporter can make an initial enquiry, but the student should be involved in decisions about their support wherever possible.
Universities
Can Fly High Mentoring work with university support teams?+
Yes, where the role, consent, confidentiality, safeguarding expectations, and communication routes are clear. Partnership details and service-level expectations should be agreed before delivery.
How are boundaries handled?+
Support is framed around non-medical help expectations. It does not replace reasonable adjustments and does not include clinical treatment, counselling, crisis care, tutoring, or assignment work.
Is support remote?+
Yes. Fly High Mentoring currently provides remote support across the UK. Access needs, confidentiality, and communication preferences can be discussed before sessions begin.
DSA/NMH and professional partnerships
Are DSA-funded arrangements currently available?+
Yes. Fly High Mentoring is a DSA/NMH supplier. Support is discussed in line with the student's approved recommendation, funding arrangements, remote-delivery needs, and available capacity.
Can university teams make contact?+
Yes. Felicity welcomes professional conversations about DSA/NMH availability, remote delivery, service scope, safeguarding, and referral pathways.
Is Fly High Mentoring part of a university or funding body?+
No. Fly High Mentoring is an independent sole-trader practice and is not part of Student Finance England, the Student Loans Company, the Department for Education, or any university.
Private sessions
What do private sessions cost?+
Private mentoring is £30 per hour. Sessions are invoiced after completed work.
How are sessions paid for?+
Fly High Mentoring sends an invoice after work has been completed. Payment details and any practical arrangements are agreed before sessions start.
Can a university still make reasonable adjustments?+
Yes. Private mentoring does not replace a university or college's responsibility to consider reasonable adjustments.
Sessions and boundaries
Can mentoring help with assignments?+
Mentoring can help with planning, time management, understanding task demands, and deciding next steps. It cannot provide subject tutoring, write assignments, proofread as an academic service, or make academic decisions for the student.
What happens if I am in crisis?+
Fly High Mentoring does not provide crisis support. If you or someone else is in danger, call 999 or go to A&E. If you need urgent mental health help but it is not an emergency, use NHS 111 online or call 111 and select the mental health option.
Will my university be told everything I say?+
No. Confidentiality should be respected. Information should only be shared with consent or where serious risk, safeguarding concerns, legal duties, or agreed professional communication require it.
Still need a practical answer?
